Okay, I'm pretty jaded about the stupidity of the defense department, afterall it has Wolf-the-twit-z. But this takes the cake.

The 9/11 commission concluded that there was not a failure in intelligence gathering, but a failure in analysis. So let's burden the system a little further by adding a bunch of chaff from those on the Internet. Let's face it, the people doing the betting here aren't going to be people plotting to blow up fill-in-the-blank. The people betting are going to be people guessing for the shits and giggles and people who think it might be fun to mess with Shrubby's policy making. The only way to justify the half a million dollars already spend would be if they're syphoning some of each contract off the top as a tax administrative fee.

A lot of Americans like to gamble. Maybe this is just an attempt to get the plebs to go to the circus.

I might by futures on some things. Will they be selling contracts on certain US political events? Growth of the US economy or unemployment might be fun games to play. Knowing the Supreme Shrub watches public opinion polls for everything we could as a country actually create a weird economic democracy. Everyone could buy votes, not just the rich.

I'm reminded of a bit from an old movie:

Would you like to play a game?: global thermonuclear war
