snow day

The management company's hired hand has once again plowed my spot full of snow. Well, half full. Half of the space is filled with a 2 1/2 foot bank packed of snow. I am not shovelling that. I called and left a slightly less cheerful message than when I called two days ago. Tomorrow morning if I'm not too busy at work I'll embark on a wardialing campaign.

I pre-ordered six pepper plants today. [livejournal.com profile] derien is against the idea because she thinks they'll just die. I'm not saying she's not right, we have an awful time with whiteflies and peppers here in Portland. But, but, peppers! They are love. They are lust. They are steaming little packages of delight. They make you happy like the when a special someone tells you for the first time that you are a special someone to them. Just add potatoes and it's instant nirvana onnastick.

Work was closed today ostensibly due to the weather. It was really closed because it's the slow time of year and it's cheaper to have people stay home. This way there will be enough work to keep everyone busy tomorrow. It's part of the retail cycle, a few extra days off in midwinter after the craziness of the holiday season. We'll see how long the lull lasts this year, economy being what it is and all.

I finished reading Wodehouse's "Love Among the Chickens" this morning. This story isn't about chickens and it isn't about golf, although it contains both. I won't tell you what it is about because that will spoil it for you, but I will tell you it's about characters. Not characters in the sense that every book has characters. Characters in the sense that you might say about someone, "that guy is a real character!"

Surprisingly enough, Wodehouse can even make a scene of a round of golf funny. Yes, golf, the world's second most boring spectator sport after grass growing, funny.
