I'm approaching 100 miles since I started tracking my exercise in December. I've made it as far as the hobbits made it in their first 4 days of walking! Obviously hobbits are made of sterner stuff. This is the farthest I've been able to walk in several tries. I'm not good at consistency. In all things I tend to overdo and not do, in alteration. So I've been surprised how well I've been able to keep up my pace. I've had some minor foot pain, but I've been able to keep at it for the most part.
I must give credit to the cardiac rehab people. They impressed me with the idea of starting out slow and not pushing. In the past I've had the tendency to do as much as I can on the first day. It's nearly impossible to keep going every (or almost every) day when you're pushing yourself. It's too easy to end up injured and unable to do anything for days on end. By forcing me to build up slowly, cardiac rehab got me in the habit of having something left for tomorrow. It's worked well.
In contrast, while cleaning out some papers earlier this week, I found a previous attempt at the Eowyn challenge. That time, I started at an incline I haven't hit yet in this go 'round. I can see the gaps, where I didn't record anything for a week, then had one day, then another week, then a few days in a row. In all there were 12 entries over the course of about 70 days totalling just under 15.5 miles. Maybe I learned something this time around. There might be a saying here about an old dog learning or a blind pig.
My health stats spreadsheet show my minimum and resting heart rates both trending down slightly over the last 60 days. Nothing radical, but a slight downward trend. My weight has dropped a couple of pounds and unlike the month of November, I don't feel that's muscle loss.
